Meet King Rembrandt

His Royal Highness, King Rembrandt Riley of the Back 40 Waterside Palace - A Velvet Claw Cattery

Every great cattery begins with an exceptional cat.

Rembrandt is the foundation stud of A Velvet Claw and represents everything we strive to preserve in the Maine Coon breed—strength, beauty, intelligence, and an affectionate temperament. From the moment we met him, we knew he was destined to become the cornerstone of our breeding program.

With his impressive structure, expressive features, luxurious coat, and confident personality, Rembrandt embodies the majestic presence for which Maine Coons are known. Beyond his appearance, he possesses the gentle, social nature that has earned the breed its reputation as the “gentle giant” of the cat world.

As he matures, Rembrandt will compete in both CFA and TICA cat shows while completing all recommended health screenings before entering our breeding program. Every pairing will be carefully selected to improve the breed and produce healthy, well-socialized kittens with outstanding temperaments.

For us, Rembrandt is more than our first king—he is the beginning of a dream that has taken years to build.

Before siring any litters, Rembrandt will complete age-appropriate health evaluations, including:

  • Hip evaluation

  • PKDef testing

  • SMA testing

  • Blood typing

  • Routine veterinary examinations
