Every cattery has that one cat who represents the future. For us, that cat is Rembrandt.
In just a few days, our future king will make the journey home to A Velvet Claw, and we couldn't be more excited. While he may still be just a kitten, Rembrandt represents years of planning, dreaming, researching, and waiting for exactly the right Maine Coon to help build the foundation of our breeding program. Today, we'd like to introduce you to the boy who will one day become the king of our cattery.
Meet Rembrandt
Officially known as: His Royal Highness, King Rembrandt Riley of the Back 40 Waterside Palace
Rembrandt comes from exceptional bloodlines carefully selected for health, temperament, structure, and the breathtaking look that Maine Coons are famous for. From the first photos we saw, we knew there was something special about him. His powerful bone structure... His long profile... Those enormous ears... And an expression that's both gentle and confident.
He's everything we hoped to find in our future king.
Why Finding the Right Male Matters
The male influences every future litter. Choosing a breeding male isn't about finding the biggest cat. It's about finding one that complements the females while improving each generation that follows. That responsibility is something we take very seriously.

While Rembrandt is incredibly handsome, appearance is only one piece of the puzzle. A beautiful cat means very little if they aren't healthy or have a wonderful personality. Fortunately, Rembrandt appears to have both.

Preparing for His Arrival
Bringing home any new kitten requires planning. Bringing home a future breeding king requires even more. Before Rembrandt arrives, we've been busy preparing everything he'll need. Our goal is to make his first days as calm and comfortable as possible.
His room includes:
Fresh bedding
Scratching posts
Climbing opportunities
Toys for enrichment
Stainless steel food and water bowls
Clean litter boxes
Plenty of quiet places to relax
Health Comes First
Even though Rembrandt comes from an excellent breeder, every new arrival begins with a health-focused introduction. As he matures, he'll also complete the health testing we require for every future breeding cat before ever becoming part of our breeding program
He'll receive:
A complete wellness examination
Weight monitoring
Careful observation during his adjustment period
A gradual introduction to our home
Plenty of love and patience
Taking It Slow
One of the biggest mistakes new owners make is rushing introductions. Instead, Rembrandt will have time to settle in before meeting the other cats. Every successful relationship begins with patience.

When we started dreaming about A Velvet Claw, we imagined producing Maine Coons that were not only breathtaking to look at but were healthy, affectionate companions for families.
