Welcoming Our Future King to A Velvet Claw
There are moments in life you've dreamed about for years. For us, today was one of those moments. After months of planning, researching, preparing, and counting down the days, we finally brought Rembrandt home. From the moment we first saw his photos, we knew he was special. Seeing him in person made that feeling even stronger.
Today officially marks the beginning of his journey at A Velvet Claw, and we couldn't be more excited to share it with you.
The Journey Home
Every mile of the drive felt like Christmas morning. Our goal was simple: make the trip home as calm and comfortable as possible. Rembrandt traveled in a secure carrier with soft bedding, fresh water available during breaks, and plenty of reassurance along the way. Although every kitten experiences travel differently, Rembrandt handled the ride like a little gentleman.
Watching him peek through the carrier door with those big Maine Coon ears was a moment we'll never forget.
His First Steps Into His New Kingdom
When we arrived home, we didn't rush. Instead, we carried Rembrandt into the quiet room we had prepared just for him.
Inside, he found:
A cozy bed
Fresh food and water
A clean litter box
Toys to explore
Scratching posts
Plenty of peaceful places to hide or nap
Rather than overwhelming him, we simply opened the carrier door and let him decide when he was ready. Curiosity quickly took over. One careful step became another...
Before long, he was exploring every corner of his new room.
Taking It All In
Every new smell... Every new sound... Every new toy... Everything was an adventure.
Like most kittens, Rembrandt alternated between exploring confidently and stopping to observe the world around him. Watching him investigate his surroundings reminded us why we fell in love with this breed. Maine Coons are incredibly curious, intelligent, and thoughtful in everything they do.
The First Meal
One of the biggest milestones on a kitten's first day home is eating. A healthy appetite is often one of the first signs that a kitten is beginning to relax. After giving him time to settle in, Rembrandt enjoyed his first meal at home.
Seeing him eat, drink, and continue exploring gave us confidence that he was already starting to feel comfortable.
Quiet Time
As exciting as moving day is, it's also exhausting. After a busy day filled with new experiences, Rembrandt curled up in his soft bed for a well-deserved nap. Watching him finally relax made all of the preparation worthwhile.
It was the first moment that truly felt like...
He's home.
