Wren & Rembrandt: The Beginning of Their Story at A Velvet Claw
Some cats enter your home as pets. Others arrive carrying a little piece of a dream you’ve been building for a long time. For us, Wren and Rembrandt are both. They came to us on different paths, from different places, with their own personalities already beginning to shine. But their stories now meet here, at A Velvet Claw. And in many ways, their arrival marks the beginning of everything we have been working toward.
Meet Wren Isadora
Queen Wren Isadora - A Velvet Claw
Wren Isadora was the first of the two to come home, and from the beginning, she made it very clear that she was going to do things her own way. She is curious, playful, affectionate and just mischievous enough to keep us laughing. Watching her settle into our home has been one of those experiences made up of tiny moments that somehow become the ones you remember most—the first time she relaxed enough to truly make herself comfortable, the first play sessions, the little chirps and purrs, and the growing realization that she understood this was home.
Wren isn't simply a beautiful Maine Coon or a future queen in our program. She is Wren. She has her own personality, her own quirks and her own way of making herself impossible not to love. And before she ever becomes part of the future of A Velvet Claw, she gets to simply be a kitten—playing, growing, exploring and being completely adored.
And Then Came Rembrandt
King Rembrandt - A Velvet Claw
Rembrandt's journey to us was different. We spent so much time looking ahead to his arrival—watching him grow through photographs and videos, studying every change in his face and wondering what kind of personality would eventually walk through our door. There was anticipation behind this little boy long before we ever brought him home. Rembrandt represents an important part of the future we envision for A Velvet Claw. As our future king, we have hopes for him in the show hall and, eventually, in our breeding program.
But titles and plans can wait. Right now, he's a young Maine Coon with an entire life ahead of him. We want him to grow up knowing home first—not expectations. He gets to play. He gets to be silly. He gets to find his favorite sleeping spots and learn the rhythms of our family. He gets to grow into himself before we ever ask him to become anything else.
Two Different Journeys, One Home
Wren and Rembrandt didn't begin their lives together.
Their journeys started with different breeders, different families and different beginnings. Each breeder entrusted us with a kitten they had raised and cared for, and we don't take that responsibility lightly. Now their stories continue here. Someday, people may know them as Queen Wren and King Rembrandt of A Velvet Claw. They may see photographs from shows, watch them mature into magnificent adult Maine Coons or even see the generations that come after them.
But we get to know the part of their story that comes before all of that. The kitten part. The messy, playful, curious, sleepy, completely wonderful beginning.
More Than a Breeding Program
When we started dreaming about A Velvet Claw, we knew we wanted to build something that went beyond producing beautiful Maine Coons. We wanted to build our program around the cats themselves.
Health matters.
Temperament matters.
Pedigree matters.
Responsible breeding matters.
But so does letting them curl up beside us at the end of the day and simply be part of our family. Wren and Rembrandt may have important roles in the future of our cattery, but they will always be our cats first.
Loved first. Family first. Everything else comes after.
This Is Only the Beginning
There is so much of their story still unwritten. There will be milestones, adventures, show days, growing pains and probably more than a little Maine Coon mischief along the way. And we plan to share those moments—the exciting ones as well as the ordinary ones. Because someday we'll look back at photographs of a fully grown Wren and Rembrandt and remember when they were just two kittens beginning their lives with us.
For now, we're simply enjoying the privilege of watching them grow.
Welcome to A Velvet Claw, Wren and Rembrandt.
Your story here is just beginning. 🖤🐾
